A proud moment..

While Liana and I were on vacation, we received very exciting news from a friend that us two, "The Phillips Sisters" had been written up in the Washingtonian for our hair skills. We were in Asheville North Carolina at this point of our vacation, scrambling through this mountain town for a book store that could possible carry copies of the magazine...not happening.

Needless to say, our loved ones were notified of the exciting news and an image of our names in glossy paper appeared via text message.

The write up is actually in a very imformative, in-the-know article written by Cinthia Hacinli and McLean Robbins. You can check it out in the September issue with Donovan McNabb on the cover. It's just a little blurb, but we see it as a proud moment and a stepping stone in our careers.

long time, no see!

Hey guys!!!

We hope you didn't forget about us!!! Summer has taken over our lives and the lazy days have set in... aside from work, Liana and I have been busy doing much of nothing. Lots of exciting things took place last week, considering we were on our week long road trip down to Savannah, Charleston, and Asheville!!! We are going to be posting pics within the next couple of entries.

Considering it's close to September, which means summer is coming to a close. I was thinking of a few pics I took of our dear client Erin. When Erin first started coming to us, she was a very bright vibrant blonde. Yet like many blondes, she was growing tired of the upkeep and wanted to return a bit closer to her natural level of hair color. Erin is a sweetheart, she is literally a Hillary Duff lookalike. The reason she's in my thoughts mainly is because this is the time of year when lots of women are thinking of their fall wardrobe and how their hair color will accomodate them throughout the cooler months. This decision making tends to lead most gals to deepening and darkening their color.

I wish I had a pick of her as light blonde, but I don't. :-(

We decided to darken her base color to a shade very close to her natural level. After this, I simply painted just a few face framing highlights, literally just a half of a shade lighter than her base to give her a little lightness and dimension around her hairline.

Liana is Erin's stylist as well, Erin wears Liana's long layered cut very well!!! This is probably as natural looking as it can get. ;):)

a big glass of hydration for your hair!

As we move into the month of July, we both are hoping each and everyone of you are having fun in the sun. Summer seems to come and go so quickly, and here we are at the first of July already! As bad as swimming in the pool and basking in the sun can be for your hair, Liana and I are both culprits of it ourselves... no worries we aren't judging you!! That's what summer is all about.

So in the case of fading color and thirsty locks, we would like to offer a Bumble and Bumble mask from their new line "quenching", this mask retails at $36.00 and is AHHHHHHmaazing. The mask is made with creatine conditioning factors that help to promote moisture replenishment and softness in your strands. Some of you may have had the treatment applied after your color service, as it has been on my go-to list as of late. The treatment is to be substituted for your normal (hopefully color protecting) conditioner. It can be left on for as long as you like, however takes about five minutes to get the job done.

Client of the Month!

This month we would like to feature a few pics of our wonderful client, Lisa! Lisa is now leaving us to start a new chapter in Boston. We are super excited for her, but very sad to lose such a fun person to chat with in the salon.

We have been cutting and coloring Lisa's hair for quite some time now. Lisa is a young professional in the city, who would be a perfect fit for a Nylon mag shoot. For the cut, Liana adds layers and cuts in a bang that she refers to as a "curtain bang," framing her hairline and forehead. For awhile now, I have been adding subtle panels of color throughout the interior layers of hair. Creating a peek a boo effect, that results in barely any regrowth- especially compared to a traditional highlight. This type of highlight is perfect for the girl doesn't want the maintenance of a highlight service, yet wants something to break up her solid haircolor. Lisa is a professor at Corcoran (how cool is that?!) and has to keep it professional. Yet she enjoys having a little fun with her hair. We just snapped a few pics in the salon, the lighting isn't the best to show the color, but you get the drift...

Summer is Here!

It has been awhile friends!! Hopefully everyone is enjoying the beginning of summer and ready to battle the fabulous DC humidity we all adore so dearly. Lots of things are happening right now and we have enjoyed all of our client visits as everybody is transitioning into their summer hair.

We have been collecting hair for the oil booms and actually made a personal trip to the post office to send out our first collection of hair to Florida. MatterofTrust.org has also added a few more videos to their site that are fun to watch. We have watched them over and over and are still amazed something this easy could make such a huge difference. There has been controversy in regards to the topic and whether or not the natural made booms are sinking too quickly. We would like to find the time to do more research on the topic but until then, we're gonna keep on truckin'. We plan to keep our spirits high in hopes that every little fiber of hair makes some sort of difference.

On a lighter note, in honor of summer, I would like to post a few photos of a incredibly stunning blonde client of mine. Her name is Kristina and she is a fairly new client that I adore. When Kristina first came into the salon she was a hair color virgin! Luckily for the majority of her life, she has remained blonde from the sun. During our consultation, her main issue was that she felt her hair was losing its natural lightness. Kristina's number one priority was to keep her haircolor looking very natural. I always love hearing this because "natural" beautiful haircolor is what I am all about. Here are a few photos of the lovely Kristina, you may be reminded of that classic California blonde by the photos. However, don't be mistaken, Kristina is a born and bred Texan. I swear, that state produces some beautiful women!!!
