Summer is Here

Hard to believe that we are headed into the middle of June! I can remember freezing my toes off on my walk to work just a few months ago.

But now that it's here, it's time to embrace those sweat droplets running down our backs and the little frizzies DC brings to our hair. Such fun..womp womp.

So in the midst of summer...no pun intended, here are my three go-to's for my hair!

Redken's UV Rescue is a product I have been using for years now. It was recommended to me by my former stylist and has been in my beach bag ever since. Not only have I found that it keeps my hair from feeling dry throughout the summer, it also seems to really help keep my color looking fresh. You can spray it in wet or dry hair. The product has a milky texture (hence the name "sun milk") so even if you do spray it in dry hair, you won't be left feeling like a grease ball.
** P.S. This product is usually 13-14 bucks, pretty reasonable!!*

Next up, is Moroccan Oil Light Oil Treatment. In my opinion, this is the best oil treatment on the market. However, I have pretty thick hair and when first giving the Moroccan Oil treatment a shot,I noticed how heavy of a product this is. It made me wonder if recommending it to clients with fine hair, or even my very fair blonde clients would be the best choice. I guess I wasn't the only one thinking this. The company has come out with a "lighter" version which seems to get the job done perfectly. I consider this a treat to myself, and like to use this product when I have extra time to soak in. I usually put it on my hair dry and use a cheapie shower cap to retain heat. I let it sit for about 20 minutes. One thing about any oil treatment, make sure to thoroughly rinse and to just saturate midshaft to ends. LOVE THIS STUFF.

Third would be Ojan's Rub-Out Dry Shampoo. This stuff is by far the best dry shampoo we've ever tried. I don't believe that any dry shampoo or hair powder can replace the feeling of just washed hair, it just hasn't been proven possible thus far. But this is the closest thing to it. Not only is it an oil eraser but it also helps add volume to the hair. Oribe's Dry Texturizing Spray is also an amazing product, I tend to prefer it more for styling though.

So here we are, my tried and tested summer must-haves. Eventhough I said only three in the beginning of this post, I will always and forever be a HUGE devotee to Bumble's Surf Spray. We have featured this spray on the blog before. This spray is absolutely perfect for when humidity is having its best with your hair. I succumb to it and just go with the flow, surf spray allows my hair to look like it's wavy on purpose, not just frizzing up. Most likely, my very most favorite product I have ever tried. Love it.

Stay hydrated and take care of your hair, people!! :)

the perfect pixie

I was never a fan of Dawson's Creek, but lovely Michelle Williams has come a long way. I honestly don't even rememeber what other actors were even on that show, Katie Holmes maybe??

Anyway, for years I said once I hit 30, I'd chop off all of my locks. I have sported long hair my entire life and have been envious of the fearless women out there that take the plunge and go short. Now that I AM 30, it doesn't feel so entirely urgent to chop my hair off. I realize now, your thirties, as well as your 20s, 40s, 50s, and 60s (as well as the rest of your life)..should all be spent embracing who you are. No matter what color my hair is, the length of it is clearly a part of who I am. I'm planning on being one of those older gals with a big bun and red lipstick..maybe.

HOWever, I will continue to admire a good pixie from afar, in all of its braving glory..

Wedding Hair Recap...

A few months ago, I posted a few trial shots of wedding hair for my long time friend, Angela. It's always nice for me to do something with hair that doesn't involve a brush and a bowl every once in awhile. Now that her wedding has passed, some of the professional pics were emailed over to me. I love them! Just thought I'd share some of the photos with you...

Getting primped..I fell in love with her hair band..

The final product, she looks stunning!

Sugar and Spice makes all things Nice..

In honor of Valentine's day, yes I'm aware I'm a day late, (but I was off celebrating with the boyfriend) I'd like to share with you my recent girl crush, Josephine De La Baume. She's a Parisian chick, and like most young American girls, growing up, I was in love with anything to do with Paris. I don't think she has done much more than a few C-list movies and a good amount of ad campains. However, she's smokin hot, and what more do you need in a crush..?? Josephine is also the new face for Agent Provocateur, the super sexy and provocative lingerie company. I added a clip of a racy video, from P.A., which is a behind the scenes glimpse of the photo shoot the company did with Josephine, because after all, Valetine's day is meant to be a little sweet and ofcourse, a little sexy, just like Josephine!

Happy Post-Valentines!

New month, New music....

So, this is a blog about hair..... but we like to incorporate all art while still having hair and fashion as one of it's main components. On that note, I recently started listening to the band "Bear hands" (they've been around for awhile but just got into them as of lately). I got the chance to go to a very intimate show they played last thursday at "The Red pPalace" formerly "The Red and the black". The show was pretty awesome, short and sweet. I was too hungry to stick around for the other two bands to play but I did get to see these guys play. They put on a great show, and have cute style too, and some pretty sweet haircuts.

Here's some pics and an unofficial video (that i like better than the ofiicial one!!)

Anybody else out there craving warm weather??

I don't know about you guys, but this cold weather has me down in the dumps. I'm dying for one of those out of the ordinary warm days filled with sunshine in the middle of winter..where is this day?! I know we usually have one or two..I'm tempted to spend a whole four minutes in a tanning bed, just to be exposed to UV rays for a hot second.

Anyway came across this cute video by Free People and it made my smile...spring is just around the corner!

Actresses of the Seventies Part Three

When I think of the seventies, aside from bellbottoms, daisies and whole a lot of drugs, I will forever think of the infamous afro. There will always be a part me that wishes I could have an afro myself. Just to be able to stick a flower in my hair or pull it back with a cute headband, that seems so flawless and classic to me.

When I think of afros, I think of the oh so sexy Pam Grier, the original Foxy Brown. As much as I love Beyonce, her version of Foxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers did no justice. I would assume Pam Grier's curves and natural sex appeal had a lot of heads turning in a time when women were really beginning to come into the sexuality...or being exploited on the big screen...I guess it's all in how you look at it.

Dont you wanna just stick a flower in her hair

Don’t mess aroun’ with…Foxy Brown
She’s the meanest chick in town! She’s brown sugar and spice but if you don’t treat her nice she’ll put you on ice!
brouillon: Pam Grier

Here's a more recent pic of Pam, I prefer her hair natural. But in my time of working with ladies and their beloved locks, there isn't a girl out there who doesn't want straight hair at some point. God Bless Us..:-/
